The Best Breckenridge Elopement Locations

Summit County, Colorado includes the towns of Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, and Silverthorne – and it’s filled to the brim with alpine lakes, high mountain passes, and wild elopement locations that make for the perfect place to say “I do!” Breckenridge is one of the most popular destinations in this area, with its historic charm and breathtaking mountain views, but the whole county is packed with equally stunning spots. Whether you’re dreaming of a lakeside vow exchange, a scenic overlook, or a quiet trail just for the two of you, Summit County has something magical to offer. This guide covers the best Breckenridge elopement locations, as well as nearby places throughout Summit County that are perfect for adventurous couples!

Where is Breckenridge & Summit County?

Summit County is just about an hour west of Denver, nestled in the heart of the Continental Divide – which means that it’s surrounded by ridges and mountain peaks! It’s a hub for outdoor adventure, with ski resorts, hiking trails, alpine lakes, and scenic drives.

The best part? Summit County makes eloping simple. Like all of Colorado, there’s no waiting period to get your marriage license, and you can even self-solemnize – meaning that you don’t need an officiant or witnesses! The only required signatures are yours, and your partner’s.

From peaceful trails to dramatic overlooks, here are some of the best Breckenridge elopement locations, and places to elope around Summit County.

Officers Gulch

Located between Frisco and Copper Mountain, Officers Gulch is a small pond, surrounded by mountains that are reflected in the water. It’s an easily accessible spot, and the views are just a short walk from the parking lot. There’s a loop trail around the lake, giving you some options for places to explore, and the opportunity to get away from the parking area a little and find a quieter spot for your ceremony!

Permit?: No.

Hiking Required?: No – there’s the loop trail, but you can also get great views just a few steps from the parking area.

Dog Friendly?: Yes.

Sapphire Point Overlook is a popular Breckenridge elopement location, and this bride and groom pictures, share their first kiss at the overlook with a chipmunk behind them.

Sapphire Point Overlook

Sapphire Point is one of the most popular Breckenridge elopement locations. The overlook is between Keystone and Breckenridge, and it sits above Dillon Reservoir, with panoramic views of the mountains. The overlook needs to be reserved for ceremonies (though this doesn’t give you exclusive access, and you might see some hikers and other visitors), and since it can accommodate up to 30 people, it’s the perfect spot for couples who are inviting a few guests, or planning a micro wedding

Permit?: Yes – you need to reserve the site.

Hiking Required?: No. The overlook is about a 10th of a mile from the parking area, but you can also do the loop trail, which is 0.6 miles long.

Dog Friendly?: Yes.

Windy Point Campground

The Windy Point Campground is one of the best Colorado elopement locations for a private spot, and it’s a peaceful forested location in Summit County. The campground is on Dillon Reservoir, and you can reserve a group site for your elopement, or even reserve the entire area. It’s a great way to make a getaway out of your elopement, and spend a few nights under the stars.

Permit?: Yes – you need to reserve a site.

Hiking Required?: No.

Dog Friendly?: Yes.

Loveland Pass

If you’re after sweeping mountain views, Loveland Pass absolutely delivers. Located on the Continental Divide, this high elevation, scenic road offers incredible scenery around every turn. There are a few trails around if you want to get away from the crowds, but you can also get great views right from the road, and from the many overlooks.

Permit?: Usually no, but it depends on the location.

Hiking Required?: No, but there are also options for hikes!

Hoosier Pass

Hoosier Pass is just south of Breckenridge, and it’s another stunning place with dramatic scenery. The views here stretch for miles, and it’s usually less busy than Loveland Pass. You can pull off for a ceremony right by the road, or explore some of the trails.

Permit?: Usually no, but it’s always best to confirm.

Hiking Required?: No, but there are also options for hikes!

Boreas Pass

Boreas Pass is a slightly more adventurous option, because it’s an unpaved, gravel road in some spots. It’s one of the best Breckenridge elopement locations, lined with aspens and mountain views! There are pull offs, overlooks, and trails along the way, and because it’s unpaved it’s less busy than the other passes, so it’s easier to find a private spot to exchange vows. But, while the other passes can close temporarily, this one is closed all winter season, and opens mid to late June, so keep that in mind when you’re deciding when to elope.

Permit?: Usually no, but it’s always best to confirm.

Hiking Required?: No, but there are also options for hikes!

Dog Friendly?: Yes.

Blue Lakes

Blue Lakes is one of the best Breckenridge elopement locations if you want to tie the knot at an alpine lake, but don’t want to do miles of trekking. You’ll get lake, mountain, and forest views, and there are even a few small waterfalls! The dirt road to get there is bumpy, but doable with a 2WD with good clearance (in good weather) if you have experience navigating dirt roads and go slow. There are some trails around, so you can walk around to find the perfect ceremony spot.

Permit?: Usually no, but it’s always best to confirm.

Hiking Required?: Some – the parking lot is a short walk from the lake, but then you can walk along the trail to find a spot. It’s an easy trail, though!
